Today's Disciple

Before we can understand where we are, we need to return to where it all began. Not with theory, not with tradition — but with the Word of God itself. The Bible is God’s eternal, infallible truth. Jesus said “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life” (John 14:6). Whatever contradicts the Bible is not truth — it is a lie. Jesus also tells us that the father of lies is Satan, and that the truth is not in him (John 8:44).

THE FOUNDATION: WHAT GOD ACTUALLY SAID

1. God Is the Creator of All Things
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1)
Everything that exists — matter, energy, time, space — was spoken into existence by God. He is not a product of the universe. The universe is a product of Him.

2. He Created in Six Literal Days
“And there was evening, and there was morning — the first day.” (Genesis 1:5)
The Hebrew word yom, paired with a number and evening and morning, consistently means a literal 24-hour day. God Himself confirmed this in Exodus 20:11 — “For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth.”

3. He Breathed Life Into Man
“Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.” (Genesis 2:7)
No other created thing received this. God personally imparted His own breath into Adam.

4. Man Is an Immortal Being Unlike Any Other
“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them.” (Genesis 1:27)
Animals were spoken into existence. Man was formed by God’s hands and filled with God’s breath. We bear His image — we are eternal beings. Our bodies are temporary. Our souls are not.

5. He Created Two Sexes — Male and Female
“Male and female he created them.” (Genesis 1:27)
Not a spectrum. Not a social construct. Two. Defined by God at creation and confirmed by Jesus Himself — “Haven’t you read that at the beginning the Creator made them male and female?” (Matthew 19:4)

6. God Established Marriage Between a Man and a Woman
“That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.” (Genesis 2:24)
God performed the first marriage. He defined it. Jesus reaffirmed it (Matthew 19:5). It is not a cultural institution — it is a divine one.

7. God Commanded Man to Procreate
“God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it.’” (Genesis 1:28)
Children are not a burden. They are a blessing and a command — God’s design for family and civilization.

8. Man Sinned — But God Provided Redemption
“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” (1 John 1:7)

Man was created perfect, but chose rebellion. Sin entered the world and with it — death, corruption, and separation from God (Romans 5:12). But God did not abandon His creation. In the greatest act of love in all of history, He sent His own Son — Jesus of Nazareth — to walk among us, live sinlessly, and shed His blood on Calvary’s hill as full payment for our redemption.

This was not plan B. This was God’s solution from before the foundation of the world (Revelation 13:8). The cross is where perfect justice and perfect mercy met. The empty tomb is where death lost.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

WHEN TRUTH IS REJECTED: ROMANS 1

These eight foundational truths are not complicated. They are clear, consistent, and confirmed throughout Scripture. But the Apostle Paul warned us — with remarkable precision — what happens when a society turns away from them.

In Romans 1, Paul describes a predictable downward spiral. It begins not with outright atheism, but with ingratitude:

“For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools.” (Romans 1:21-22)

Notice the progression. First, God is acknowledged but not honored. Then thinking becomes futile. Then hearts are darkened. Then, claiming wisdom, they embrace foolishness. Sound familiar?

God’s existence is not a matter of faith alone — it is written into creation itself:

“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities — his eternal power and divine nature — have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” (Romans 1:20)

Every cell of DNA. Every precisely tuned physical constant in the universe. Every fossil buried in catastrophic layers of rock. Creation itself testifies to its Creator. No one will stand before God and honestly say they had no evidence.

Paul then describes what follows when God’s design is abandoned — the confusion of natural relationships, the blurring of male and female, the celebration of what God calls sin (Romans 1:26-28). This is not ancient history. This is the evening news.

THE EVIDENCE AGREES

About 150 years ago, the theory of evolution entered the scientific conversation and has been taught as established fact ever since — in schools, textbooks, and publications like National Geographic. But let’s be absolutely clear: evolution and creation cannot both be true. One must be a lie.

Today, many honest scientists — upon examining DNA and the human genome — are acknowledging what the evidence increasingly demands: that life could only have originated through intelligent design. That points to God and to creation.

The fossil record tells the same story. I live about 50 miles from a well-known dinosaur fossil site near the Fort Peck Dam area. Many of those fossils appear to have died suddenly and together — not the gradual layering evolution would predict, but something catastrophic. Not a meteor strike — but entirely consistent with what the Bible describes: Noah’s flood.

THE BOTTOM LINE

If the Bible is true, evolution is a lie. And that conclusion carries further weight — because without evolution as a foundation, the popular idea of alien life from outer space loses its footing entirely. What the Bible would identify as such deceptive, destructive influences is something else: demonic forces, sent to lie, kill, and destroy faith (John 10:10).

Romans 1 tells us that rejecting God’s truth does not lead to freedom — it leads to bondage. A darkened mind. A corrupt culture. A civilization that calls evil good and good evil (Isaiah 5:20).

But here is the hope: the same God who established these truths also provided the way back to them. Through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ, minds can be renewed, hearts can be restored, and truth can be known again.

“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32)

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)

These truths have not changed. They will not change. And no theory, no culture, and no amount of political pressure will ever make a lie into the truth.
